After our visit to Seven Brother’s Burgers, Andrew and I decided to go to one of our FAVORITE dessert places, The Chocolate Dessert Café. The Chocolate is located in Orem on State Street, between 400 south and Center Street. It may be easy to miss while driving down State Street, as it looks like a little green house! The Chocolate has been one of my favorite dessert shops since I began living in Provo.

As soon as you walk in, you can smell all the delicious treats!

One thing I love about The Chocolate is the atmosphere. Since it is inside a home, not a building designed to be a restaurant, it feels like home.

The chocolate has many options, from cookies to brownies, cakes to pastries. One popular menu item is the cazookie, where they bake together two kinds of cookie dough and serve it with ice cream on top. Our favorite thing to get at The Chocolate is the cake. We have tried them all, and the Brooklyn Blackout is our favorite. It features a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache frosting in between the layers and on the top and sides. It is so yummy!

When we visited The Chocolate yesterday, it was fairly quiet and empty. There was only one customer ahead of us, who was taken care of quickly. We ordered, and had our cake with us within about 5 minutes. The employee working was friendly, and joked with me while getting our cake ready for us.

One thing I love about The Chocolate is the atmosphere. Since it is inside a home, not a building designed to be a restaurant, it feels like home. They have several eating rooms available with couches, tables and chairs, and comfortable arm chairs. When they are busier, they open up the top floor, which has more cozy seating arrangements. The decorations are simple, but classy. We did not end up staying to eat this time, as we had a very fussy baby with us, but we have stayed on several occasions. The atmosphere is generally quiet and cozy, with Fridays and Saturdays being a bit more cramped and loud, but not unreasonably so. There is usually fun music playing. I’ve found it to be a perfect place to catch up with friends or have long, deep conversations. The employees aren’t in a rush to push you out the door, and there usually isn’t a wait for a good place to eat.

Generally, you should expect to get your treats within a few minutes for the already baked treats (cakes, cookies, etc.) and wait about 15 minutes for the cazookie, since they bake whichever flavors you want. Once, we ordered a cazookie, and they must have forgotten our order because we didn’t receive it for quite a while. When we asked about it, they were very apologetic and refunded our cazookie, and baked it immediately. They were good to help us out in that way.

The Chocolate does have a couple of gluten free options, which I have not actually tried, but have heard they are pretty good. I also love that The Chocolate usually has a different specialty flavor of cake each week – past cakes including almond poppy seed, chocolate covered strawberry, maple pumpkin, and more.

You can follow the café on Instagram to see their cake of the week at @thechocodc.

We love The Chocolate Dessert Café, and highly recommend visiting, but  be careful as its quite addictive.
