Nelsons

Nelsons is a super old fashioned burger joint found in Bountiful, Utah. It isn’t very big, and actually is mostly outdoors. Nelsons is run completely by teenagers, but is still worth it to go! You can drive through or eat inside the tiny restaurant. It reminds me of McDonalds, but one hundred times better than McDonalds and healthier.

Nelsons is actually known for its shakes and malts which are Utah famous. There are two locations in Utah, the one in Bountiful, and the one in St. George.

I have always loved the grilled chicken sandwiches and the burgers at Nelsons. Their menus consist of more than just burgers and chicken sandwiches though. You can find gyros, fish, chicken tenders, malts, shakes, and onion rings here as well. Nelsons is very cheap. For an entire meal, you can literally spend $5 and be completely stuffed. Mostly teenagers and elderly people populate this restaurant though. I think the case is because it is very old fashioned and its an easier job for teenagers. I have seen families there on occasion, but mostly for desserts.

Burgers and shakes are the most popular items to order here, and of course, they are delicious.

Nelsons takes on average about 5 minutes to prepare your meal so it is very fast and very fresh. The onion rings and fries are also a menu highlight especially if you enjoy dunking your fries in shakes. I have been to Nelsons several times, and the busiest I have ever seen it was on July 4th, and it was absolutely packed inside the restaurant. Now the restaurant is not very big to begin with, and can fit around 10 families inside, but the drive through was insanely long as well. There is a window where you can walk up and order your food kind of like sonic, but I have found that is actually slower than drive through or ordering inside.

The chicken sandwich is pretty good, but I definitely prefer the burgers. The chicken sandwiches you can tell are pulled out from the freezer, and just don’t seem as fresh as burgers from the grill. Nelsons is known for putting a lot of mayo on their sandwiches which makes them very tasty too.

As you can see, it isn’t the healthiest option, but it is a fun old fashioned experience for all ages, and especially kids.

The shakes are literally the best part of Nelsons. They are similar to Dairy Queen where they stick inside the cup like the concrete shakes do, but they are so much more creamy than Diary Queen. I personally love the raspberry shake and the chocolate shake the best. The shakes are also massive in size, and so you will definitely want to order a small or medium, because they are very filling. Unfortunately, they don’t preserve well, so don’t plan on enjoying a shake for more than one day in a row.
