Skin Science is a nail, spa, and makeover studio located only in Utah, either at the Salt Lake City location, or the Orem location. This studio acts like a school and a studio where students learn how to provide facials, manicures, pedicures, eyebrow plucking and waxing, and tanning. Skin Science is a great place to get a cheaper spa service, and provides its students with great opportunities to learn and practice their skills on incoming clients.

I am typically not one to go to a spa for any sort of service, however, I needed to get a pedicure pretty badly so I decided to stop in one day. I actually had to call in ahead of time to reserve a spot for myself as Skin Science gets very busy. There is a small catch, the spa service is only available from 10am to noon, and then the students are in classes the rest of the day so you must reserve a spot and a time ahead of time to make sure you can get whatever service you are requesting. My reserved slot was at 10am on a Wednesday. I went to the Orem location, and it was actually really hard to find. If you decide to go to the Orem location, be sure to find it ahead of time as there are no signs indicating where Skin Science is, and the address takes you to the middle of the shopping mall where Skin Science is. I did eventually find it, but it took a good twenty minutes to.

Once I signed in, I was in the back of the salon within five minutes of my arrival. The desk clerk was very nice and had me fill out some paperwork indicating what I was allergic to and a pre survey of my thoughts of the studio. The lady who would then work on my nails walked me to the back and started right away on my hands. It actually took her quite a long time to get started. She had forgotten most of the supplies and tools that she needed, I didn’t really mind since I was in the middle of emailing something for my job at the moment and needed my hands, but for others, I am sure this would be frustrating to just sit there and wait for the students to gather their supplies and get everything ready. Once she finally started on my hands, it was slightly awkward to just sit there while she worked on my hands. It took her about an hour and fifteen minutes to finish my hands, with lots of rinsing and lathering of lotions and things.

She was very nice, but not that talkative.

Next was the actual pedicure itself. This felt a lot faster than the manicure did. It took her about an hour and fifteen minutes as well, but she did an excellent job on both my hands and my feet. She was very gentle, and all of the tools she used where either brand new or just recently cleaned, so I was not worried about getting an infection or anything. I have to admit, I was pretty shocked how long the services took. In previous nail salons, it takes about an hour to do both a manicure and pedicure, whereas at Skin Science, it took almost three hours. If you happen to come here, which I recommend because it is cheaper and high quality, just be sure to save at least two and a half hours so you don’t miss anything.
