If you enjoy medieval times and medieval entertainment, then the Renaissance Festival is perfect for you! This festival only occurs on weekends in North Utah in May. Hurry fast because tickets sell out fast! The Renaissiance Festival costs $15 per person, but it fun for everyone.

I have to admit, I went on the very last day that the Renaissance Festival was open, and it was in the process of being shut down for the summer, so most everything was packed up and it was a bit boring. However, I had friends go earlier in the month and they said it was quite the spectacular and they spent upwards of 5 hours at the festival. I really enjoyed the shows that the actors put on, as well as the jewelry making, and archery.

All of the employees at the festival act like a specific character and really make you feel as if you are at an actual renaissance. They will often act out jousting, horse shows, sword fights, and even singing shows which can be fun to watch. When I was there, the shows were over for the weekend, but the mermaids were still out and taking photos with everyone.
The jewelry making was probably to biggest highlight of everything. There was a small shops section where you could purchase medieval hand crafted jewelry. The jeweler also put up a sign to show where she would teach how to make the jewelry for free at the beginning of each hour. She was very fast and provided all of the supplies for learning. It was actually quite simple and fun. Most people crowded around the weekend I went because it was the only interactive thing to do until later in the afternoon.

Once the afternoon hours hit, there were some archery and axe throwing lessons. This was really cool especially since I am a big archery fan. They had special archery equipment for kids as well as for adults which made it easier for many people to try at once. The axe throwing was fun, but it was incredibly difficult and very heavy. My husband enjoyed throwing the axes the most out of everything that was available to do there.
The mermaids were in a special corner in a shell where you could actually see them in water and take photos with them. This was pretty cool, but it had a long line and that is all the mermaids really did. There was also a magic fairy wagon in the corner where you could walk through and see fairy gardens. This also had a long line, and it turned out to be mostly decoration and lots of reading. Still cool to see, but not as fun for kids.
The entire festival is outside, and it has very little shady areas. I highly recommend going, but go one of the first few weeks the festival is open to see lots of cool shows and entertainment.
