Wasatch Arts Center is an older dance studio that opened several years ago. Found in Riverton, Utah, it is growing super quick! Wasatch provides dancers with a holistic approach to dancing. Dancers can choose to take tap, jazz, ballet, modern, lyrical, pointe, hip hop, contemporary, and competition. Offering classes mostly for younger kids, summer camps and intensives are very popular for Wasatch Arts Center.

There are several adult classes that Wasatch Dance Center offers. The most common being adult tap, adult jazz, and adult ballet. These classes are mostly beginner, even if you have never danced before. Sometimes, they will have more advanced classes, but they will send out an email and post on instagram and facebook if it will be more advanced that day. Tap is on Tuesdays. The 6:30 class is for beginners, and the 7:30 is for intermediate/advanced. I went to both classes. The beginner is truly beginner and very slow paced, but fun. The intermediate/advanced class was on the more difficult side. If you consider yourself an intermediate tapper, you will definitely be challenged. If you consider yourself advanced, it will be challenging but not as much as an intermediate would be challenged.

Besides these classes, Wasatch Dance Center hosts master classes. These master classes are taught by well renowned dancers from all over the world. I had the privilege to take a master class with a famous tap artist who studied under Savion Glover and Gregory Hines. It was super fun! I highly recommend at least taking the master classes, since you learn so much, and it is only a one time deal. The master classes are really good about splitting up skill sets so that no one is bored or overwhelmed. I went to a beginner tap class and was still challenged. I wanted to attend the intermediate/advanced class, but I didn't have the time for it.

Percussive Foot Ensemble is a brand new tap company founded in Riverton, Utah, actually at Wasatch Arts Center. This tap company taps at the dance studio every tuesday night. They offer open technique classes to anyone to come and join the company.

I went and it was super fun. The room had great acoustics for sound and the floor was already worn in making it easier on my tap shoes. The only thing I didn’t like was the air conditioning. We worked up quit a sweat, and there is no air conditioning in the room. The room isn’t very big to begin with, and so as you can imagine with 10-12 dancers, it gets super hot.

I would highly recommend trying at least one dance class with Wasatch Arts Center. They are awesome and very cheap. Around $5 for one class, as opposed to $10 for a class. The staff is also super nice. They have a little bit of favoritism with their regular dance customers, so keep in mind your first experience might not be the best, but it definitely gets better after you start coming more.
