If you are familiar with Celtic festivals, you know that these festivals are a huge deal and tons of fun! If not, you are about to find out more! Celtic festivals are representative of Scottish heritage festivities. Often times, these festivals have clans that come, like on the movie Brave, and share their traditions and meet together. It is huge event that all people are welcome to come to!

During the summer times, Celtic festivals happen at least two or three different times. Then, they don’t meet again until the next summer. The first one of every year is in Payson, Utah around May. Then there is another one in Murray, Utah around July, and the final one is in Moab, Utah around October/November. These festivals last anywhere from 2-4 days and last all day long.
The Moab festival was a two day event in which bagpipers come, irish dancers perform, Scottish dancers perform and compete, Scottish food is sold, kilts are hand sewn and sold, and even sottish traditions are shared.

If you have ever seen Brave, remember the part where the clans all meet and compete for Mirida’s hand in marriage? It is identical to that! There are giant logs that clans compete to throw the farthest from each other. There are dance competitions. Bag pipers play the bag pipes while people walk around and even teach some basic bag pipe lessons to those interested. There are several other Scottish games that are played and festivities that you can watch or participate in. The most popular activities to participate in are walking around the vendors and concessions stands.
Vendors here sell lots of handmade crafts and products of celtic heritage. You can actually purchase a real hand sewn kilt for pretty cheap. Whereas you would have to purchase one online or in Scotland where they can average $600 or more. At the festival, they are only $100 or $200.

You can also get these to be custom to your weight and size. Almost everyone here buys and wears a kilt around the festival because it is fun to take part in the heritage and culture of the celtic peoples. Many people also purchase good foods to eat here too. Giant chicken legs are the most popular item and smell amazing as you walk around. There are also giant corn on the cobs, pies, smoothies, lemonades, fries, and pretty much any carnival food you can think of. Fish and chips are also a super popular item to purchase and eat.
The celtic festival is tons of fun and there is so much to see and do. If you want to just watch the festival from afar, there are the irish and Scottish dance competitions that are super fun to watch and listen to bagpipes. There are even some crafts that you can make while the competitions and performances are going on. I highly recommend attending at least one festival especially because they are free and open to the public!
