The Lazyman Ironman is a huge fitness ordeal and event that only takes place on BYU campus in Provo, Utah. This event lasts for one month and is completely on your own. It is the same exact length and duration as a real Ironman would be, but the catch is that you don’t have to complete it all in one sitting.

You can if you want, but you have a month to fill out the tally card to get a free shirt for completing. This makes it so much easier since cycling, running, and swimming are all required to pass the ironman.

Another cool aspect about the lazyman ironman is that you can do it from the comforts of home.

So, I guess it doesn’t necessarily have to happen in Provo, but if you want to pick up your souvenir shirt at the end, it does happen in Provo.

Anyway, you can swim, bike, and run all at home or at your friends place, or the recreation center nearby. Most commonly, people will complete their lazyman ironmans at BYU because the gyms are free for use, but it depends on the person. I have completed 8 lazyman ironmans over my time the last 4 years (one per semester) and I have done them at BYU campus, from my apartment complex, and from the Provo Recreation Center pool.

For those who don’t know much about ironmans, they consist of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and a 26.2 mile run. When you split this over a month, it is pretty doable. It is a great way to meet up with friends to work out together and to stay fit. I personally loved working out on my own since I could go at my pace and get my workouts done faster, but it depends on the person. The other nice thing about the BYU Lazyman Ironman is that they often host fitness classes and runs for the community to help knock out the miles and aspects of the ironman altogether.

Commonly, the Rex Lee Run, Color Run, and cycling fitness groups which are all designed to count towards the ironman so that many people can complete it together. Once you complete your ironman, you can turn in your tally card for a free shirt commemorating that you completed the ironman. In the past, the shirts have been strange colors like bright yellow, orange, and brown. The last year, they switched to white and blue shirts which I absolutely loved.

To sign up for the lazyman ironman, you can literally just sign up online and then print out your tally card and work on it until the end of the month. Just make sure to sign up before the due date or you miss out on getting a free shirt at the end of the month.

In order to get the free shirt, just head to the Richards Building on BYU campus, and redeem the tally card. I highly recommend the lazyman ironman for anyone and everyone. It is doable for kids, and a great way to keep the family in shape together.
