If you have ever participated in a color run before, you know how fun and colorful they are! For the first time, BYU hosted their own Color/Honor Run! For just ten dollars, you could get a race entry, shirt, and color packets to participate. Anyone could participate in the run and it was only a 5K.

Color runs are my absolute favorite. If you have never been in a color run before, you are missing out! Typically you will want to wear all white or all black clothes that you don’t care about getting destroyed or ruined. The colors sometimes wont come out of shirts and shorts very well and can stain. However, this is part of the fun. Sometimes, runners will have color packets with them to throw on people as the race on by. Most of the time, colors will be thrown on and spread around at the end of the race when everyone is all sweaty and the colors can stick really well as everyone gathers around the finish line. At this color run, the colors were spread all around as you passed the finish line and people would throw colors on each other.

If you have ever been to the Festival of Colors in Utah, it is a similar event, just with running in it.

Just like the Rex Lee Run, the Color run takes place on the BYU track and all around the outskirts of campus. It is the same trail: running past the BYU stadium, up hill towards the MTC, downhill past Heritage Halls and then straight on past to Brick Oven. Finally, all the way up towards the RB, and around the track once before crossing the finish line! Then it is the huge color party for everyone, even nonrunners, to participate and get colorful in! The hardest part about this race is definitely the uphill at the beginning and the uphill section at the very end. The majority of the race is downhill which makes you go really fast and feels like you are flying on down by the Creamery.

After you finish the race, everyone joins in on the color party and throws colors on each other. Everyone also enjoys loud music, free snacks, and free massages. This line is not as bad as the Rex Lee Run where you can wait an hour or more because there are so many runners. This race typically has 100-200 runners in it which makes it much smaller and easier to run faster and get massages. Many companies also come to advertise and give away free product samples. Cosmo, the cougar also comes and dances around and takes photos with all of the racers. It truly is a fun event and you get an awesome free t shirt to enjoy afterwards. I recommend this race to everyone especially families and kids. Just make sure to bring a bandana or extra shirt to cover your face so you don’t inhale the colors!
