For anybody who lives in Utah but loves Hawaiian food, this is the place! Mo’Bettahs is a quick and inexpensive way to fulfill any craving for Hawaiian food. It’s at a nice intersection of fast food and sit-down restaurants, allowing for quick service and high quality. Mo’Bettahs has locations across Utah in Logan, Bountiful, Salt Lake City, West Valley, Midvale, Lehi, South Jordan, and Ogden, each serving fresh, authentic Hawaiian food. The Lehi location reminded us of a Hawaiian version of Café Rio, with a cafeteria-style line that allows you to choose your food as you go, with options like white or brown rice, types of meat, or macaroni “mac” salad. Because of the open-kitchen floor plan, you get the opportunity to watch the cooks make the food as you go through the line. In addition to the fun of seeing the food being prepared, you also get the opportunity to see how fresh your food is. We were able to watch our choices taken straight off the grill, onto the chopping board, and onto our plates.

Although there were plenty of people at the restaurant when we arrived, there was practically no wait for us to get our food. The lines move quick from order to check-out, keeping the lines short and customers in and out. Although there were plenty of people already seated when we arrived, we had no trouble finding a seat. Customers ranged from small families, young couples, and groups of friends, all seeming to have a great time. The staff are friendly and quick, both behind the counter and throughout the restaurant. Each customer is greeted with a cheerful “aloha!”, giving a fun feeling of Hawaiian hospitality.
The restaurant was decorated with everything you would expect at a Hawaiian restaurant – Surfboards, ocean, surfing, and shells, but not so much to be overwhelming. There are several tv’s all playing surfing videos and shots of the ocean, creating a relaxed atmosphere fit for Hawaii. In each location we’ve been to, there’s a section indoors under a quaint tin roof, making a fun area that almost gives the impression of eating outside in Hawaii. When the weather’s nice, there’s usually seating outside too, in case the small shelter indoors doesn’t quite do it for you.

The food was fairly cheap, delicious, and more than either of us could eat. Each plate comes with chicken, beef, pork, or shrimp, or a combination of two meats. Each meat has all your favorite Hawaiian flavors as options, such as Teriyaki and Katsu. The plates come with your choice of either white or brown rice, shredded cabbage, mac salad, and your meat choice, all in very generous helpings. Their “mini” size is what I would consider “regular” size compared to most restaurants. To top off your plates, you get cups of sauces or bottles of Sriracha to spice things up a bit.
Mo’Bettahs is a must-see restaurant for anybody living in Utah who loves Hawaiian food, or just looking for a filling, tasty meal without paying a fortune.
